Haiku Booklet
This project was an exercise in translating poetic text into imagery, utilizing principles of design to tell a story through personal interpretation of poetry. My chosen text is a haiku by Matsuo Basho:
On sweet plum blossoms
The sun rises suddenly
Look, a mountain path
My interpretation: looking beyond individual details and seeing the bigger picture can lead you down a brighter path. Another layer to this interpretation was understanding that when we face difficult situations, we often feel as if we are the only ones experiencing hardships when many other people are feeling the same way.

After studying the haiku, I began to put my initial ideas on the page, developing a first draft of what my layout might look like.
Digital Iterations
Utilizing my original sketches, I created iterations of each spread until I found the series that best portrayed my interpretation of the haiku.
